Many of you don't know my chip story. I'm sure many of you have had similar chip stories to mine, but with my chip story, I took action against it, and the outcome was.. well it was good :)
The chip story started at recess during school. You go to your bag, you get your recess, you eat. One fine recess, I got out my pear and bag of chips. I felt the chip packet, and went "Ah bummer, the chip packet exploded again in my bag" as I felt there was only one chip left in it. I looked in my lunch bag and couldn't see any other chips that came out of it. Huh? Then how's there only one chip in the packet? I took out the packet and felt inside. There was only one chip, and it was air sealed. Unbelievable. A one chip packet. My friends started laughing and all wanted to feel this one chip packet, while I was left there with my pear and one chip. I suppose it was better than no chips, but either way, I was not happy.


The Bag.

I had the idea that I should ring the Chip Company and complain. It took me nearly a month to do it as I had no time, and also to see if it would have been worth the call. So at the start of this week, I called the Smith's Snackfood Company Consumer Enquiries (I hadn't consumed the one chip yet - it was still in the packet just in case they wanted me to send it) on their 1800 number. As I waited through all their automated messages I thought what I could get out of it. Another packet? Promotional products? $100? I had no idea. So the operator picked up, then I went through my whinge acting like I was some furious kid that was starving due to the fact that I have had nothing to eat since I found I had a one chip packet. The operator (which was female) was really sorry, and it seemed that she was treating me like my house had burnt down and I had lost everything in my life. "We are really sorry", "My apologies", "...this is rare" and then at the end of the conversation after I had mentioned the barcode and all the details, she said "We'll send you a reimbursement". Yay! So I waited.

Four days later, I received a letter and a money order for $5.00. :) The letter was quite comprehensive going through the details that how this happened and how it was quite rare etc. Boring. The moral of the story? Don't be afraid to ring huge companies if you have some dodgy product of theirs. If you don't, those companies just get richer and richer, while you get something that wasn't worth what you paid for. Hmm... what should I spend the $5.00 on?
