Mind Blowing. PDF Print E-mail

We sat there quietly in Geography staring at the PowerPoint being shone on the projector screen. Images of the great destruction that Hurricane Niue caused were being shown. Completely damaged homes, blown roof tops and uprooted trees and crops were just some of the many images we saw as the teacher went through each slide. "And that building there... gone." the teacher said. "Those crops... gone." he repeated. It was amazing to see the great destruction of natural disasters. It was even more amazing to see a map online of the damage of Niue. The class came to an end and we all packed up eagerly waiting for lunch.

Cyclones and hurricanes eh? Shame we never get to experience anything like that. We looked outside the window into the dark gloomy sky. "Looks like some storm is coming..." said a friend. "It's going to rain in Canberra! We win again Queensland ! Yay!" shouted another person. Walking into my locker room, the lights started to flicker on and off and the strong wind slammed the doors.  I looked outside, and the boys playing handball were all grabbing their lunchboxes and running inside. Bits of leaves and sticks started to spin in an anti-clockwise whirlwind (or was it clockwise? Isn't that in the northern hemisphere? Wait, isn't it anti-clockwise because we're in a low?). Everyone was running about like they had never seen rain before and were amazed when they heard a tree had fallen down on the main oval. Then we heard the electricity had cut out...

Chaos. Absolute chaos. However, that didn't prevent Mr Mclean and a few students to continue selling tickets to One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (See it tomorrow night [Saturday]) even though it was raining heavily and the wind was blowing everything around.

So after lunch, (which I spent in the resource centre trying to see if the 'book borrowing walk-in beep beep alarm thingy near the door ' would still work if there was no electricity) we couldn't go swimming [something about filters and no electricity] or do anything in English [because the photocopy machine didn't work].

What a mind-blowing* afternoon.

Remember, 19 days to go before exams! Started yet?
